Conservation
Essential oils are sensitive to UV rays and the gradual evaporation of their constituents. It is therefore imperative to store your essential oils in a sealed, colored glass bottle at a temperature between 5 and 40°C.
Precautions
- Therapeutic internal use reserved for the therapist.
- Not recommended during pregnancy and in children under 6 years.
- Possible oestrogen-like effect, to be avoided in case of mastosis or hormone-dependent cancer.
- Caution: this oil is tonic when used in low doses; it is sedative in high doses.
- Generally speaking, do not use essential oils for pregnant or breastfeeding women, people with epilepsy, hypersensitive people or those with hormone-dependent cancer, and more generally those with health problems. Unless you have medical advice, do not use essential oils for babies and children.
- Always keep essential oils out of reach and out of sight of children.
- When handling essential oils, avoid contact with the eyes of the oils and your hands. In case of accidental spray, immediately rinse thoroughly with water. See a doctor quickly if the condition persists.
- Use essential oils with moderation and caution. They are very powerful.
- Essential oils are not used on the skin pure as a rule, it is advisable to dilute them in your preparations respecting the maximum recommended dosages. Dose your essential oils using the pipette.
- Essential oils should not be used in products intended for application on the eye contour or mucous membranes. Essential oils should never be applied to the eyes, ears or nose.
- Patchouli essential oil contains the following compounds listed as allergens by the EU cosmetic regulation: LIMONENE.
- Essential oils can be irritant or sensitizing on some skin. We recommend that you always test your elbows at least 48 hours before use for skin tolerance. If you notice a reaction (redness, irritation, itching...), do not use the product.
- Injections of essential oils are strictly prohibited.
- In case of respiratory allergies or asthma, avoid inhaling the essential oil diffuses directly.
- Do not combine essential oils with medication without medical advice.
- Consult a doctor for any therapeutic indication or oral treatment. Essential oils should be diluted on a food-grade oil, honey, sugar or neutral tablet for oral use. If you have any doubts or questions, do not hesitate to ask your doctor for advice.
- In case of accidental ingestion, swallow or have several spoonfuls of vegetable oil to dilute the essential oil, contact a poison control center and consult a doctor. Do not make vomiting.
- Clay tends to potentiate the penetration and irritancy of essential oils. On sensitive or reactive skin, it is advisable to avoid the use of essential oils in clay masks.
- According to the Regulation (EC) n°1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, patchouli essential oil for use as a cosmetic ingredient includes the following information:
Danger - Keep out of reach of children. May be fatal if swallowed and penetrated into the airways. Wear protective gloves and eye protection. IN CASE OF INGESTION: call a POISON CENTRE/doctor immediately. DO NOT cause vomiting. Dispose of contents/containers in a waste collection centre as per local regulations. ![]()
